This morning I noticed that my roses were covered in wasps. I don't know what they were doing there. Looking for bugs? I know wasps are great predators of many pesky bugs and beneficial to the garden. It didn't look like they were getting any bugs and it didn't look like they were getting nectar either. Then I noticed that one of them was licking dewdrops off the rose leaves!
I could see this with my eyes, but of course it didn't come out in any pictures. Next time you see wasps in your garden, be thankful for all the caterpillars they will be eating!
Those wasps are HUGE! I thought you would show a pic of the kind we have in my town, they have the patterns of a bee but the coloration is different, as well as the body type. I read somewhere that they can pollinate some plant species too! Ain't that amazing! I used to hate wasps now I realize they are just another link in a complex chain of things that I just cannot comprehend!
